Unbeknown to him there was a Tiger Moth (VH-CGK/A17-53) on long finals with the instructor under the hood performing an instrument landing. The Tiger collected the Vampire as it landed with the propeller smashing through the Vampire cockpit canopy. All onboard survived with minor injuries. The Tiger was written off but the Vampire was repaired and delivered to the RAAF six months later. |
