On 25/10/44, being Authorised to conduct aerobatics and spins as part of an exercise PLTOFF Gadsen failed to recover from a spin, which was observed from a second aircraft as to spin approximately two or three times. It is thought that the dual stick which had been in place in the aircraft had possibly jammed against the Observers seat. His observer, FSGT O'Connell had earlier that day been released from hospital after contracting Malaria but was cleared fit for flying duties. Crew; PLTOFF J.G. Aircraft sent to Clyde Engineering NSW for repairs and overhaul 26/11/43. Rec 2AP 28/05/44. Issued 452 F Sqn RAAF 05/06/44. Accident 05/06/44 when on delivery to 452 F Sqn RAAF by 2AP aircraft forcelanded at Burgens Park NSW. Pilot was F/Lt Hutley 2AP. Heavily damaged. Was recovered and sent to Clyde Engineering for survey. Considered beyond repair and converted to components 30/08/44. |
