Flew nine PR missions during August. On 25/06/45 Pilot FOFF Ken Boss-Walker suffered an engine failure over Sourabaya NEI (Netherlands East Indies) and flew the 10.5 hour return trip to Australia of 1450km on one engine. Presumably, this is the rationale of the name of ‘Old Faithful’ painted on the port nose along with thirty-eight mission marks (Photo: Pentland Vol2 P.100). The AWM has a photo P002448.075 which shows A52-2 landing at Broome WA after this flight. It captions the crew (FOFF Ken Boss-Walker and Nav POFF Jeff Love) as also having been the first to complete an operational flight in a RAAF Mosquito to Ambon on 01/06/44. Actual cause of crash was not determined but it was not attributed to glue bonding problems. The crash once again delayed the local production of Mosquitos (Bowyer p.112).

Search aircraft failed to locate A52-70. In 01/46 wreckage was discovered in the Barrington Tops National Park and a coroner’s inquest decided A52-70 had flown into trees during fog or cloud. (Lever p.60). Crew: Pilot FLT A Warren and FOFF G Bidstrup were killed.

Unfortunately persistent bad weather prevented the photographic survey of Borneo that the company had been contracted to undertake for the US Army Map Service. 21/09/54 Ferried to Sydney via Sarong and Darwin. Stored at Camden and last flown in late 1954. The Dept of Civil Aviation which was concerned about the durability of their wooden construction and agreement was reached for a one year stay to allow A52-204 (A52-313) to fly survey work after which both aircraft would be scrapped. The Australian Government website on the Pulu Keeling National Park Management Plan notes the following ‘A Second World War De Havilland Mosquito aircraft, A52-606, from 87 Squadron, failed to reach West Island airstrip and crash landed on the east coast of North Keeling Island in June 1945.
