RAAF Historical advise that the aircraft status cards of these went with the aircraft when sold, so we don't have access to the official aircraft status cards that show the history of these aircraft. We are seeking the operational histories of the aircraft listed above.
After the withdrawal from service of the CT-4A Airtrainer the RAAF effectively ceased ab-initio pilot training. The BAe/ Ansett Flying (later BAE Systems) college in Tamworth, NSW was contracted to provide the RAAF with initial pilot selection and basic training . In yet another somewhat ironic twist in the Airtrainer's history the CT-4B was selected as the most suitable type for the job and in 1991 the production line was re-opened. The initial batch of 12 new build aircraft delivered in 1991/92 was supplemented by a purchase of a further 14 ex-RNZAF aircraft delivered in 1999.

| VH-CTZ | 081 216 | 1976 1999 | Lynette Zuccoli's Aerotec has operated a couple of CT-4s with the same civil registration number and they are included here for reference only. The first was an ex-RNZAF CT-4B serial NZ1933. (Construction number 081). Registered to Aerotec Qld P/L, Toowoomba Qld as VH-CTZ on 13/06/2003. Used for flight training until 11/04 when it was replaced by CT-4E (Construction number 216) originally destined for the Royal Thai Airforce but never delivered. This now carries the same civil registration. |
It appears some of these aircraft are based away from Tamworth. A couple seem to be based at RAAF East Sale and I would guess maybe the same applies at RAAF Pearce. Can anyone confirm?
Geoff Buttsworth sent the following information: "On the CT-4 page, you guess that there are CT-4s based at both East Sale and Pearce. The first guess is right: there are usually four there so CFS can train ADF flying instructors who are destined for Tamworth. As far as I'm aware (I used to be posted to both 2FTS and BFTS) there has never been any BAe CT-4s based at RAAF Pearce. They have probably flown over there for students' graduation parades, etc but it would have only been a fleeting visit."
