The Observer, Petty Officer Observer 2 Keith Bunning, RAN was rescued. |

Allotted to 851 Squadron as 276/K and then with 724 Squadron as 916/NW. To the RAAF 29/07/53. I believe the ID on the RAAF status card is incorrect, it was listed as FX373. Aircraft is to be tested for the Navy at ARDU. Details of testing unknown. To ARDU 05/08/53. Departed for Nowra 11/11/53. In 1954 it was with 723 Squadron and on 21 February 1955 it swung to starboard on take off and the under carriage broke off on rough ground. In February 1955 it had been modified as a Mark 5 T2 Pilot Trainer. On 26 June 1957 while with 851 squadron its port oleo collapsed on landing Later allotted to 724 Squadron as 962/NW. Sold to T. Carr & Co. for scrap by the Department of Supply on 06 March 1959. |

On 08 August 1951 with 817 Squadron pilot flared out high caught 10 wire and the aircraft went into the barrier and again on 31 March 1953 another heavy landing on board HMAS SYDNEY. While with 817 Squadron on 08 June 1953 its wing was damaged on landing at, Gosport, Hants, England. On 30 July 1953 while embarked in HMAS SYDNEY with 817 Squadron it was damaged when it made a heavy landing. On 30 December 1953 with 817 Squadron on turning off the runway hit a building. Reduced to Spares and Produce by 17 November 1955. |

In 1956 it was with 851 Squadron and on 17 July 1957 during a night taxi the aircraft left the runway and was damaged. Disposed of 08/07/66, Tender No. 13434 for $502.00 to Camden Museum who later sold it to the Historic Preservation Society of the United Kingdom. |

| WB271 | FR5 | F8497 | Known to have been flown by 812 Squadron, HMS GLORY before being sold by the Royal Navy to the Royal Australian Navy. Transported to Singapore by HMS WARRIOR where it was off loaded to HMS SEMBAWANG. On 11 February 1952 it was collected in Singapore by HMAS SYDNEY and brought to Australia. It is known to have flown with side number 242/K and later with 264/K. Converted to a Target Tower by Brain and Brown Ltd, Avalon Victoria and was flown by 723 squadron as 899/NW from 1954 to 1956. In 1958 it was with 725 squadron as 889/NW’. In 1959 placed in storage at Bankstown. On 08 July 1966, 826 Royal Naval Air Squadron bought it, at scrap value, and took it back to England on board the carrier HMS VICTORIOUS. It was restored to airworthiness and flew with the Royal Navy Historical Flight at RNAS Yeovilton, Yeovil England under its original colours of 812 Squadron HMS Glory. Originally there was a gentleman’s agreement that the aircraft would show an R on one side of her tailplane in honour of HMS GLORY and on the other side a K for HMAS SYDNEY. It was changed and wore an R on both sides of the Tail Plane. While taking part in the Air Show at Duxford Cambridge, UK on 12 July 2003 the aircraft appears to have flown into the ground killing the crew of two. This leaves only one airworthy Firefly flying in the world and it is also an ex-RAN Firefly. |

Struck off Charge on 08 July 1966 and sold to Mr. R. Beltbame - Tender No.12379 for $400.00, PO Box 828, Griffiths NSW where it was mounted on a pole. In 1991 it was brought down from the pole and swapped with Firefly WD828 by Classic Aviation Company, Bankstown NSW. It was sold to Captain Eddie Kurdziel in 1994 who took it to the USA where it was restored to Flying Condition by Ray Middleton’s QA Aviation of North America in Fort Collins, Colorado USA. In 2002 it was successfully flown and attended Oshkosh Airventure Air Show in Wisconsin, USA where it won a swag of prizes for the best restored aircraft. |

Placed in storeage on 08 July 1966 and sold by the Department of Supply in February 1967 to Moorabin Museum, Melbourne Victoria - Tender No. 13435 for $400.00. Later while being restored to airworthiness was swapped with a CAC Winjeel and now acquired by the Confederate Air Force's Mike Wansey who then brought it to flying condition. On 04 December 1987 while taking off from Camden Airfield it made a force landing in a nearby Cabbage Field. Badly damaged it was transported to RANAS Nowra. The pilot, George Markey and his engineer, Bill Spence, were sued for $400,000.00 on the grounds of negligence and a court battle carried on until 2001. With the court finding in favour of Michael Wansey. On 05 February 1990 the damaged Firefly was acquired by Bruce Simpson of Classic Aviation for $100.00 and removed to the company’s premises at Bankstown Airport. It was then bought by Captain Eddie who exchanged it with WB518 and after removing the parts needed to make WB518 airworthy rebuilt WD818 and placed it on the pole in Griffith, NSW. |

It is known that recently parts of this aircraft were acquired for the restoration of WB518. It is believed that WD833 will not fly again. |

It is understood to have flown with 817 Squadron, then with 816 Squadron, and on 02 September 1952 while landing on board HMAS SYDNEY it sheared off its undercarriage on the barriers and came to rest in the deck part. Later it was with 851 squadron in as 272/K also as 241/K. It was converted to a Target Tower. On 08 July 1966 it was sold to Aircraft Engines Overhaul and Service, Peakhurst NSW - Tender No.12393 for $627 (included other items). Who in turn sold it to Bob Diemert of Canada. Shipped to Vancouver and then transported to Manitoba where many parts including the engine were found to be missing. The owner then fitted it with a Merlin 500 complete with a chin radiator from an Avro York. The aircraft was later stripped out and converted to a seven seater and on 17 September 1972 it was registered as CF- CBH. Later sold to Gene Fisher of the Confederate Air Force for restoration as a Firefly Mark 6. Then sold to Don Knapp and the aircraft moved to Abilene, Texas. Don Knapp was killed at an Air Show. The aircraft then moved to the Lone Star Museum and parts were taken off it for the restoration of WB518. The aircraft was once again sold and was being transported to Florida when it was in a road crash. Now believed to have reached the end of its days. |

| WD901 | AS6 | F8725 | Delivered to the RAN in the United Kingdom. It was embarked in HMAS VENGEANCE at King George V Docks, Glasgow and sailed on 21 January 1953. On arrival in Australia on 11 March 1953 it was off loaded to RANAS Schofields. On 04 March 1955 while embarked with 816 Squadron embarked in HMAS SYDNEY it was damaged in heavy weather. Flew with 724 Squadron as 907/NW. Converted to a Target Tower by Brain and Brown Ltd. of Avalon, Victoria. Then allotted to 725 squadron as 878/NW. Later renumbered as 846/NW. Sold by the Department of Supply to Casula Auto wreckers, NSW - Tender No.12354 for $550.00. Who in turn sold it to Major Gabella and shipped to the USA aboard SS African Crescent. Taken by road to Charleston Municipal Airport, South Carolina and converted to a Crop Duster registered as N7649. Later left to decay until bought by a Syndicate from the Canadian Warplane Heritage (CWH). The Syndicate then spent C$50,000.00 refurbishing the aircraft to Airworthy to fly to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada where it was registered as CF-BDH in Royal Canadian Navy colours as BD-H of 825 RCN Squadron. On 02 September 1977 while giving an air display at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto, Ontario the aircraft spun in crashing into Lake Ontario killing its pilot, Allen Ness, a member of the Syndicate. |

| WH627 | AS6 | F8750 | Delivered to the RAN in the United Kingdom. It was embarked in HMAS SYDNEY in June 1953. On arrival in Australia on 14 August 1953 it was off loaded to RANAS Schofields. On 13 April 1955 while it belonged to 816 Squadron on board HMAS SYDNEY it suffered a heavy landing breaking the tail oleo. Struck off Charge on 01 August 1958 after being used at the Fire Ground. |
| WH632 | AS6 | F8755 | Delivered to the RAN in the United Kingdom. It was embarked in HMAS SYDNEY in June 1953. On arrival in Australia on 14 August 1953 it was off loaded to RANAS Schofields. Sold by the Department of Supply on 03 June 1960 to the Marrickville Air League. Transferred to the Camden Air Museum on September 1975 and later moved with the museum to Narellan NSW. In 1978 it was sold to the Canadian Warplane Heritage, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Shipped by sea to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada and then by road to Mount Hope Airport outside Hamilton. Later flown by Hercules to Patricia Bay Airport, Victoria, British Columbia where it was restored to flying. On one flight it hit ground equipment and was badly damaged. Again restored it was flown back to Mount Hope to the CWH where it is now. |
| WJ109 | AS6 | F8813 | Delivered to the RAN in the United Kingdom. It was embarked in HMAS VENGEANCE at King George V Docks, Glasgow and sailed on 21 January 1953. On arrival in Australia on 11 March 1953 it was off loaded to RANAS Schofields. Converted by Brain and Brown, Ltd. Avalon Victoria to a Target Tower and given number 907/NW while with 724 Squadron. It is known to have been numbered 238/K and flying with 816 squadron. On 01 August 1953 with 816 Squadron embarked in HMAS VENGEANCE the port panel of the Pilots hood was hit by ricochet during rocketing. In 1957 it was with 851 Squadron. For some time it was a Gate Guardian in HMAS ALBATROSS. Restored by volunteers and presented by the Government to the Australian Naval Aviation Museum. Now on display at Australia’s Museum of Flight, Nowra NSW. |
