On the night of 22 January 2001, "Tiger 83" almost ditched in Shoalhaven Bight during a winching exercise.The aircraft apparently had problems with the automatic flight control system(AFCS)and came within 5 to 10 feet of ditching in the sea after spinning around three to five times during an uncontrolled descent.The rear crewmen cut the winch wire and the pilot recovered the aircraft after sending out a May Day message.
