| NZ580 | 03 | The third Wicko to be built, this was the only GM.1 known to be exported. First flight in U.K. was on 30 June 1938 and the C of A was issued on 10 August of that year prior to shipment to New Zealand. Imported by the Hawkes Bay and East Coast Aero Club and arrived at Wellington on the "Remuera" on 30 September 1938. Assembled at Bridge Pah Aerodrome and made it's first flight on 10 October of that year. Entered the New Zealand Civil Aircraft Register as ZK-AGN registered to Clyde Engineering Co. Ltd. on10 October 1938. Sold to the Middle Districts Aero Club in August 1939. Impressed into the RNZAF for a cost of 600 pounds on 06 October 1939 as NZ580 and used by the Communications Flight based at Rongotai. Struck a radio mast near Johnsonville, Wellington in low cloud and rain and crashed into an orchard just after 6.00 a.m. on 26 November 1942. Occupants suffered minor injuries. Aircraft retrieved to Rongotai but written off on 31 December 1942 as reduced to spares. |
